Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books (BoB) is a reading incentive program for students in grades 4 through 5. The main purpose of the program is to introduce students to quality children's literature representing various genres and includes both new and well-known titles.
BoB is not about who wins first place in the school or district competition. BoB originated with the idea that reading is fun! It was designed to increase enthusiasm for reading and to give students a chance to be part of a team.
Why do we have Battle of the Books?
Student participation in the program is optional. Students read from a designated list of 10 books. In order to participate in our school competition that takes place in January/February, students must read at least 2 of the 10 BoB titles. Students will be placed on teams making sure all 10 books on the list are covered. The more thoroughly a child reads, the stronger their team is.
4th & 5th grade students may also compete for a spot on the district level team by reading, taking a written test, doing well in the school level competition, and by showing good sportsmanship.
Parents are invited to attend the final school competition round. Date & time TBD (probably late March 2019).
The 2019 4th & 5th grade district BoB competitions in March will be held at Buckner Elementary School.
